Boise, Idaho - Amuma Says No, a new Basque Folk Rock Band in Boise was just awarded a grant to begin recording their first CD.

Amuma Says No, consisting of Spencer Martin, drums, Erik Snodgress, bass & vocals, Dave Manion, electric guitar, TJ Erikson, sax, Dan Ansotegui, accordian & vocals, Sean Aucutt, pandero & vocals, and Jill Aldape, vocals, has been performing and touring since 2006. The group has based its sound off former Boise Basque Bands, Gaupasa, Ordago,and Jim Jausoro's Orchestra. They have also added a little flair from current Euskal Herria (Basque Country) bands as well as their own sounds and twists to make these popular songs their own. "The goal of Amuma Says No is to keep alive traditional Basque music in the United States while simultaneously pushing it forward into the 21st century." Writes Spencer Martin in the group's biography.


Since their creation in 2006, they have performed all over the Boise and Treasure Valley area as well as Nevada and Oregon and are headed to Seattle and Texas this fall.

Amuma Says No recieved the National Fund for Folk Culture Grant in July and decided to record a CD to be released around December 1. They are recording with Txantxangorriak, a traditional Basque group from Boise, Jean Flesher of Utah, Bernardo Yanci of Boise, as well as Curtis Steigers on several of their tracks. They are very excited to have this opportunity and to share it with the rest of the Basque community as well as others.
